They are photos of guests from the cruise ship AIDA LUNA enjoying Charleston by bike!

The system was developed by human/digital interface specialists Deeplocal. The helmet is stuffed with neurotransmitters that allow riders to shift gears "without using a single one of their appendages," according to the bike's webpage. Think "gear shift," and that command is sent to an iPhone app, which in turn controls the bike and makes it obey your wishes.

The Charleston cycling community has recently suffered another great tragedy. Yury Babenko,  a Russian living in Charleston as an exchange student, was struck and killed by a drunk driver while riding his bike in West Ashley last Friday.  He worked in Charleston to send money home to his family in Russia.

Within days they'll extend all the way up Morrison Drive to Meeting Street.

The Charleston Parks Conservancy is celebrating all things parks with its second annual Park Week. The Conservancy will host free events in various Charleston parks during May 9-13. 
Monday, May 9: Peninsula Pedal
This bike tour begins at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Beaufain Street and Ashley Avenue. Although all levels and bikes are welcome, this event is for adults only. We jumped in, fearing that cyclists would try to ride INSIDE THE LINES and sooner or later, someone would get "doored."  We pleaded for sharrows that would show everyone that cyclists actually belonged out in the lanes of traffic, and very recently, the sharrows were added.
