Sharrows come to Chapel Street, Charleston

When Charleston street crews painted bike lanes too narrow to be safe, they called the stripes "bike guides." We jumped in, fearing that cyclists would try to ride INSIDE THE LINES and sooner or later, someone would get "doored." We pleaded for sharrows that would show everyone that cyclists actually belonged out in the lanes of traffic, and very recently, the sharrows were added. Here's a bike-ride glimpse..

The sharrows are great - but what is the point of THAT LINE ?

THANK YOU, City of Charleston. Keep up the good work!

The point of the line, now, is to delineate the door zone where collisions between opening car doors and bicyclists could take place.

Now the line delineates the door zone which should be avoided to prevent collisions between opening doors and bicyclists.
